John Millage MillsBorn 8 Nov 1865 Salt Springs, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, died 3 Feb 1934 Springhill, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada, 68 years, death cause: Hemi-plegia, Arterio-Sclerosis, buried 5 Feb 1934 Springhill, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada Nova Scotia Historical Vital Statistics: John Milledge Mills, died 1934 in Springhill, Cumberland County Item can be found in Registration Year: 1934 - Book: 159 - Page: 491 Obituary: Word that John Mills had been suddenly stricken with illness at No. 2 Surface last Wednesday, was learned with sincere regret by many friends and acquaintances. Of a particular vigorous type, and an indefatiguable worker, the past five years of failing health have been trying. Feeling in better health than usual, he went out Wednesday afternoon to his work at No. 2 screen. Almost immediately he was stricken, but was able to make his way with help as far as Dr. Simpson's Drug Store, where his condition was found to be serious. His sons were called and he was removed to his home. A second stroke brought unconsciousness, until he passed peacefully away early Saturday morning, on the third of February. The late John Millidge Mills was born at Salt Springs,Cumberland County, 68 years ago, and was a son of Rufus and Mary Mills. He spent his earlier years at home, after which he made his home on the Valley Road, removing to Springhill some 17 years ago. He was a worthy descendent of Cumberland pioneers in the vicinity of Springhill. He was a farmer, the son and grandson of farmers. He loved the keen swing of an axe in the winter woods, no less than the burden and heat of the harvest, and during his failing years, he longed to return to the life of his good and vigorous years. To the very last he was keen to be about his work. Since coming to Springhill, his unassuming and kindly ways won for him many friends, especially among his fellow workmen. He is survived by his wife, the formerly Miss Agnes Brown, and three sons: E. O. Mills, of the local Metropolitan Staff, V.R. Mills and M.K. Mills, merchants, all of Springhill. Of his immediate family, two brothers only remain, Harmon Mills, Valley Road, and Charles Mills of Alberta. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, and was very largely attended, including numbers of relatives and friends from the surrounding country, as evidence of the high esteem in which he was held, and of respect to a man of upright and honorable character. The service was taken by his pastor, Rev. W. J. Wright, of Wesley United Church, assisted by Rev. J. R. Millar, of St. Andrew's United, Rev. G.R. Harrison of All Saints' Anglican, Rev. G. N. Hamilton of the United Baptist and Commandant Millar of the Salvation Army. (Source: undefined newspaper clippling)
